Hood

Within Hood the visitor’s acoustic experience of the weather conditions is subtly exaggerated. When it drizzles, it sounds like its raining, when its raining the visitor experiences rolling thunder in the distance; when there is a breeze, strong winds ripple through the tree tops and as the temperature starts to rise, the listener hears insects, birds and animals from hotter climes. The weather conditions are only exaggerated to the extent that the visitor’s visual and aural experiences are readable as a whole, so they are not able to distinguish between the real and the augmented sounds. The pergola takes data from its own weather station to activate pre-recorded weather sounds, so the sonic response to the current weather conditions is localised to structure. As soon as a few raindrops hit the shelter the sound samples change accordingly.
