Hood
Hood enhances the acoustic experience of weather conditions through subtle exaggeration. When drizzle falls, it mimics the sound of rain; during a downpour, distant rolling thunder is heard. A gentle breeze transforms into strong winds, while rising temperatures bring forth the sounds of insects, birds, and animals from warmer climates. The enhancements are designed so that the visitor cannot distinguish between real and augmented sounds, creating a cohesive auditory experience.
The pergola uses data from its own weather station to trigger pre-recorded weather sounds, ensuring that the sonic response is tailored to the current conditions. As soon as a few raindrops touch the shelter, the sound samples shift accordingly, immersing the visitor in an future environment where weather is more extreme. Commissioned by SkyArts
