Pinsky Projections
Pinsky Projections was a fictitious property development company established by Michael Pinsky, who served as the artist in residence within the Urban Planning Department at Chelmsford Borough Council. The proposals were intentionally radical, addressing relevant urban issues and designed to provoke a response from the community. These proposals, which mimicked architects’ visualisations, were situated in prominent public spaces and carried the official credentials of a development proposal, including a council address for feedback. They challenged the prevailing expectations for development in the area, raising questions about what was possible, the scale of change, and the values represented by new developments. The hope was that all stakeholders would embrace a more ambitious and risk-taking approach to the development of the West End.
